This blog is semi-closed: anyone can read, but only invited guests can write. To participate in summer homework in 2013, you must send AFletcher an email requesting an invitation. At the meeting, I asked you to read the assignment on the blog so you could see what you were getting into before signing up; if you decide to participate, get the invitation so you can write.

Amusing Ouselves to Death

My favorite book was probably Amusing Ourselves to Death because that whole book is true. Society is all about image and how smart you are, but overall looks are the biggest deal to people. Culture is turning into television and media, which changes people’s thought process. People feel as if they have to look and act like every celebrity they see on television. Television is a great way to get information out and about and a great source of entertainment, but it is full of worthless junk. The world is no longer word-centered it is now image-centered. Television is where the printed world came out and people cannot tell the difference between show business and business. News is turning into a source of entertainment and so is religion. Commercials are said to be a way of therapy. Lastly, television is now linked to education. Students seem to learn better if they are learning in the form of a television.
