In the World State, perfection is the key to the society; while in the Reservation it is based off of Darwinism, which is only the best will survive also known as survival of the fittest. In the World State, Alphas are known as perfectionist, a well rounded individual that knows all. When Bernard became the exception, alphas were stunned and were in a bizarre state. Isn't it ridiculous that people expect you to be perfect? I think many of us can relate and can say that there have been individuals that strived us towards perfection (cough, parents) But each mistake made is another lesson learned, so we shouldn't strive to be perfectionist. As individuals we all learn that perfection cannot be attained even with the work of progress, but is it possible to progress through our goals and endeavors even if we are not perfect. For example, alphas are supposably perfect, then how come they do not know what emotions are or who Shakespeare or literature is? It may not be heavily looked upon in their society, but in our society, we value literature and Shakespeare.
All in all, doesn't this show us readers the mistakes that alphas are making even though alphas are perfectionists? When did you realize that in The World State society is not perfect, any examples? Or are they perfect but we are just neglecting the facts because of our own beliefs?
Alphas are perfect for the specific society in the World State. They are conditioned to meet the highest expectations of the society they live in and not ours. As for the World State itself, there are many examples of its flaws throughout the novel and the earliest introduced is the citizen's dependence on the drug, soma. Soma sedates the people of the World State and provides a release from reality, yet it inhibits free will and clear thought. Soma is essential to the World State's foundation because it allows the leaders to maintain total control over the society.

In today’s world, women get surgery, buy expensive clothes, and wear makeup at an attempt to be perfect; however, reality reveals that it just isn’t possible. In Brave New World, the World State does everything in its power to make everyone happy, but there is always that one person in a thousand who just doesn’t buy it, in this case, it’s Bernard. I realized this utopia was not quite going to work out for all when it was revealed that they scientifically created children, for there will always be mistakes in science which in this society would lead to chaos. Overall perfection is not possible in our society, but people will continue to try to achieve the impossible.
