Reading Brave New World, Amusing Ourselves to Death, and Alone Together has been like an eyeopener to the modern world. People underestimate how much we depend on the internet, and its is becoming a major issue for new generations. If we need to find information about a topic, we merely type it into Google and it is displayed in front of us. We don't have to make our way to the library, check out books, take them home, and then search for the information like everyone had to do just years ago. Not realizing it, technology has made us lazy. Instead of playing outside, we sit in front of the television on our phones. Instead of playing with little siblings or cousins, we give them a computer to play with. Technology has greatly shaped how we interact with people of all ages. We get frustrated when we have to teach our grandparents how to use their smartphones and computers, yet happy when a two-year-old can easily maneuver a phone. I don't excuse myself when observing how technology has lowered and changed the amount of mentally and physically challenging activities people engage in because I do heavily depend on my phone or computer on a daily basis. I don't know these ethics will effect people in the future; however, I feel by people not having to work for the information or other things they receive will create a new, unproductive mentality in their minds which will only further develop as the years pass and there are more technological advances.
Technology has made a big impact on our world today. Ten years ago there were no such things as iPhones, iPads, tablets, smart tv, etc. I agree with you that technology has made us all lazy. We go on the Internet find any information that is useful to us instead of opening up book an looking for the information in there. Jobs now let people work from home instead of being in the office and schools now have classes online.We text each other to communicate we never call anyone unless it is urgent. Teenagers today , we post everything on the Internet: where we are, what we are doing, who we are with. If you don't have: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Vine, and etc, you are not connected with the world. In years to come people are going to depend on technology too much that it's going to be abused in a wrong way.
ReplyDeleteI agree with how technology has possibly had a negative impact on our social lives in which we give our younger siblings and cousins computers so they can entertain themselves instead of us having to spend time with them. However I would have to disagree with you on the latter part of your argument. I think that the ease of access to information because of the internet nowadays is good because it shortens the research process on people's assignments and gives them more time to focus on other things. Thus with effortless access to information society would benefit from this and would in turn become more productive as things can be done faster than before. The problem with that is many people will be distracted by going to websites to watch videos to entertain themselves instead of focusing on their research.
